%22I was that girl...%22

Whether you are, or have been a pregnant teen or know of a friend or family member who has, you know the waves of emotions, fears, & worries that can overcome you.

In honor of every one of the brave young women we serve that have chosen life, our Founder Julie Carden candidly shares her story of being a pregnant teen.

As a teen, I never allowed anyone to get to know the real me because the “real me” was searching for love in all the wrong places. I was that girl that found herself pregnant at the age 15. I was scared and felt like I couldn’t tell anyone. I was a cheerleader in high school and had a grade point average and reputation to maintain. My goal was just to make it through high school unscathed.

When I did share, I was told, “you’ve got to get an abortion.” I didn’t even know what that was but found myself at an abortion clinic. In the room they told me that what I had inside was just tissue and that after the abortion, I would be fine. I was not fine!

The day of the abortion…

The nurses let me leave assuring me that I would be alright. I walked into my home, after being dropped off, literally shaking. I recalled the sounds of the equipment and moments later I lay there questioning “what did i just do?” The abortion alleviated what I thought was the immediate problem.

I never realized that my future would be so different afterwards. I felt unlovable, alone, ashamed and a deep inexpressible sadness. My heart and soul were troubled and I struggled sleeping. I realized the severity of what I had done. For a long time I was haunted by dreams of a baby crying and tried my best to keep up with birthdays.

I managed to graduate high school but I walked daily in shame and regret. I thought for sure that the entire school knew what had happened.

Oh what I would have done to go back to that day and change what happened but that is the greatest reason why Grace Home Ministries was birthed.

Knowing that God can take our greatest pain and turn into our greatest passion, I wanted to have a place where young women like myself could come and be empowered with tools to succeed and understand that their life does not have to end because they’re pregnant. We grow the most during the hardest seasons in our lives!

Jesus says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” That “neighbor” is anyone in distress.

I share my story so that others may choose what I didn’t that day…life. My hope is that young women faced with an unplanned pregnancy would know the truth of abortion and know that they do not have to go down the road I and so many other women have gone through.

45% of all women by the age of 45 have had an abortion

Julie walked in God’s forgiveness for years after coming to know Jesus as her personal Lord & Savior but never knew she could experience God’s healing so that she may walk in freedom until 2008 when she attended a retreat focused on post-abortion healing. If you would like more information on how you too can experience not just His forgiveness but also His healing please contact juliecarden@gracehomeministries.org.

We need your help!

Statistics show that 4 out of every 10 young women will become pregnant by the age of 20.  That means that there are young women in crisis pregnancy situations right now in our communities that need Grace Home Ministries to minister to their needs.

What ever amount you give big or small, please know we are grateful for every gift.

After you’ve made your donation, please help us keep the story of Grace Home Ministries moving by sharing this information with those you know.

“For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.”
